This is the first bar of soap I made for a custom order. The person asking for the soap was my brother. He is a brewer, and wanted to offer something to his customers as a thank you for purchasing his product. I thought hard (but not long) as to what I would make. I settled on a soap that incorporated certain obvious (and not so obvious) qualities.
I like beer.
Hops are a very important ingredient in beer, so I decided I would add that as a visual and physical component. You can grasp the bar of soap, and since the hops are ground very fine, create a mild scrub to the bar. I have a very favorite kind of beer, and I added orange and clove essential oil to honor those qualities.
This soap is named after the ancient port city where Solomon made his gold famous. So in effect, this is my gold.
For Ophir I have created my own scent with essential oils of orange, clove and sage. The moisturizing effects of the combination of coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil and avocado oil create a wonderfully mild, yet cleansing soap.
This soap also has the added benefits from the ground hops. Upon grinding them, the machine clogged with beneficial hop oil. It seems science keeps finding good things about hop oil. Not only does it show to have a calming effect, it can help psoriasis sufferers, reduce coughing & congestion, & alleviates sleeplessness/insomnia. Another wonder plant! I grow Cascade hops in my garden for this soap.
The only other ingredients besides the above listed are rainwater and lye. These two things combined with the base oils coconut, olive, castor, rice bran, avocado & sunflower, create soap. There is no lye present in my finished bars of soap. Just pure moisturizing soap.
Average size for this bar is 6 ounces. This is a fairly hard bar of soap and you will get your money's worth if allowed to dry out between uses.
